1st Jean Monnet Chair UG Conference 2020

It is not very often, if ever, when undergraduate students have a chance to attend an academic conference. Luckily, this was an opportunity open to students of the module Imagining European Futures at the University of Southampton. Thanks to the support of the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, students got a gist of how it feels to disseminate their research at a conference.

The conference started with Dr Kamil Zwolski opening the event and presenting his paper called Imagining Functional Power Europe. It invited the audience to imagine how European integration could look like if it developed along functional, rather than territorial lines, and how it would impact on European security governance.

Over 50 students presented on a wide variety of topics, all related to the challenges to European integration. This year, a lot of focus was on the rule of law in the EU, but also issues of external relations, migration and economic/financial reforms. Many congratulations to all the presenters for making this event a success!
